It was the start of spring break my freshman year of college and I was walking to my car to drive home (this was before that car got stolen, but that’s a different story for another day). At an intersection near my dorm, a car pulled up to the stop sign, presumably also driving home for the break. There were two girls in the front, and on top of the car was a CD binder.
I wanted to knock on the window of the car and hand them the binder. That would be the decent thing to do. I actually stopped walking and just stared at the car for a minute (it was probably like ten seconds, but it seemed like a minute at the time) wrestling internally. What if they thought I was being creepy? Or what if there was a gap in the traffic and they wanted to go, but I was trying to give them the binder? Do I pick up the binder and show it to them so they know I’m not being weird, or do I knock on the window first so they don’t drive off after I pick up the binder but before I have a chance to get their attention?
In the end, I just walked away.
Stay tuned for Part 2…
